Bulk viscosity and spectral functions in QCD

چکیده
We examine the behavior of the spectral function for the T μ μ operator in QCD in the two regimes where it is possible to make analytical progress; weak coupling, and close to a second order QCD phase transition. We determine the behavior of the bulk viscosity in each regime. We discuss the problem of analytic continuation of the (lattice) Euclidean correlation function to determine the spectral function. In each case the spectral function has a narrow peak at small frequency; its shape would be challenging to extract accurately from lattice data with error bars.

Energy-momentum tensor correlators and spectral functions
We calculate the thermal Euclidean correlators and the spectral functions of the energymomentum tensor for pure gauge theories, including at non-zero spatial momentum, at leading order in perturbation theory. Our goal is to improve the extraction of transport properties from Euclidean correlators that are computable in lattice QCD. Based on our results and the predictions of hydrodynamics for t...
متن کاملBulk viscosity of QCD matter near the critical temperature
Kubo's formula relates bulk viscosity to the retarded Green's function of the trace of the energy-momentum tensor. Using low energy theorems of QCD for the latter we derive the formula which relates the bulk viscosity to the energy density and pressure of hot matter. We then employ the available lattice QCD data to extract the bulk viscosity as a function of temperature. We find that close to t...
متن کاملO ct 2 00 5 Viscosities of Hot Gluon – A Lattice QCD Study –
We present transport coefficients (shear viscosity, η, and bulk viscosity, ζ) for the gluon system obtained by the lattice QCD. This is an indispensable calculation towards the understanding of " New State of Matter " observed in RHIC. We study the temperature regions of RHIC (1.4 ≤ T /T c ≤ 1.8) and much higher ones up to T /T c ∼ 20. In RHIC regions, the ratio of shear viscosity to entropy de...
متن کاملGeneral relativistic hydrodynamic flows around a static compact object in final stages of accretion flow
Dynamics of stationary axisymmetric configuration of the viscous accreting fluids surrounding a non-rotating compact object in final stages of accretion flow is presented here. For the special case of thin disk approximation, the relativistic fluid equations ignoring self-gravity of the disk are derived in Schwarzschild geometry. For two different state equations, two sets of self-consistent an...
متن کاملTransport properties of the quark-gluon plasma from lattice QCD
I review the progress made in extracting transport properties of the quark-gluon plasma from lattice QCD simulations. The information on shear and bulk viscosity, the “low-energy constants” of hydrodynamics, is encoded in the retarded correlators of Tμν, the energy-momentum tensor. Euclidean correlators, computable on the lattice, are related to the retarded correlators by an integral transform...
